AACS works by taking three keys stored in hardware - the player key (in the player itself), the drive key (in the drive reading the disc), and the title key (on the disc) and combining them in such a way to come up with the final disc key that can decrypt them. So that key is being held secret by the devs, and only the final disc decryption key is being distributed to users. Once started, the system date can be anything - it's only checked when the program starts. Using the key in the linked message works with system dates up through March 31, 2023. MakeMKV claims that it’s only a beta product, but it’s been in beta for years, so it may stay free for a long time. This effectively extends the trial period indefinitely. The UHD player key was obtained through shadier means and the way the system is designed the keys can be revoked much easier. The key included with 1.17.1 is even older, so the system date would need to be moved back a LOT further to get approval to start. Every month, you can either download the latest version of the beta or activate the application using the latest beta key in the forums. EDIT 2, just confirmed that the site is down. Would be interested to find out whats up though, as I use MakeMKV and paid the 50 registration a few years ago to support the project. The Blu-ray key used was basically poorly kept secret and was easily extracted, and because it is an active key it cannot be revoked without disabling a player so it's likely to remain active. To manually add hashed keys keys to makemkv, you open Makemkv, go to view->preferences, then, ->general and establish a folder for the 'makemkv data directory'. Dont do 4K rips here, play those from disc, or stream from online. This is to protect the integrity of the leaked key that is being used otherwise it would be instantly revoked and useless. This database of keys allows the disc to be directly decrypted rather than running through the key derivation process that players normally go through. The next time the program checks that database is downloaded. That blob is sent to the servers who use the secret player key to derive the disc key to decrypt the disc and that disc key is put on the server. What happens then is the first person inserts the disc and the program extracts all the necessary data to get the key for the disc. The programs use that key to derive the disc key and is built into the ripper program.Ĥk discs do not have a publicly known player key, so the rippers have managed to find a poorly kept key they're keeping quiet to prevent it from being revoked. Hashed Keys - HT: 11x18 room with 121' 2.39 CIH image and 7.1.4 audio 9 viewing distance from front 3 recliners 5 theaters seats in back on 5.5 deep riser. (Arguably deserving a spot in the pantheon alongside other notables like DVD Shrink. It may be premature to panic just 6 days past expiration of the last rolling, recurrent free license key for the perpetually-in-beta MakeMKV, one of the truly great video enthusiast programs to come along. That's because there is a well known Blu-Ray player key that all the rippers use that hasn't been revoked. drifting, somewhere on the Sea of Cynicism.
